any suggestions for an easy to use FREE p2p that is not going to kill me with adware or spyware?? Had WinMX at my ex's, just got this comp to find that WinMX software is no longer available.

    There are a couple here.

Of course, I always found that funny. Why worry about installing spyware/trojans with the p2p program, chances are you will get it anyway sooner or later from the files you download.

I've been using that motto for years to steer my love life.

WinMX, all versions can easily be found if you Google.

It still works, but you have to tweak it or apply a patch.

Personally, I don't think it's worth the bother, ShareAzza or BitTorrent is excellent and fairly safe.

hehe.....as with computers, ensure you have the appropriate protection so you don't download a virus.....

Well, OTOH, you need appropriate protection to block the upload of a virus to another as well, if you weren't careful in the past.

Can't stress Safe Se, er, Computing enough!

Great point, I always wear appropriate protection on the other hand. :D

Especially with my hands, you never know where they have been.

Safe er, computing is extremely important.

I'm still trying to get over damaging my dongle and floppy, but that's a long story. :)

The potential for infection doesn't end with the program.

You are downloading files from someones' computer, so the risk is always there, regardless of how spyware free the program is.

I use Shareaza, but am I wrong or not,I thought you could not get virus from an MP3.

    Nothing is perfectly safe.

Anyway, most MP3's are ripped by fools, then resampled by other fools.

The quality is pathetic, I don't know why anyone bothers.

What you do is not the issue or the general practise.

Most people can't rip music to save their lives.

The quality of mp3's is pathetic. I would much rather do it myself and do it properly. (and that applies to music as well :) )

I don't think we understand each other.

I'm not saying MP3's can't be good quality.

If you use a lossless compression, off course they are.

Point is though, the vast majority of people don't, then they offer them for download on P2P programs.

Then others, in the mistaken belief it improves the quality, resample them and make them even worse.

    OGG for me ;)

I have agree with you Insomniac ( Cleetus... heheheh love the new title mate :D ) in that a fair few of the music downloads you find off p2p etc are of sub standard quality either 128bps or lower, are ripped with poor software compressed the living daylights out of them , then uncompressed and run through a resampler to get them back to near CD quality at least 192kbps where the bass, trebble and mid tones end up poop ... funny I know this as I have never used p2p ( in the senses of world wide p2p.. but do on closed network p2p ) but have been given a few Cds like mentioned, ok for sampleing, which I'll be honest I have but then gone and bought ( cost me a fortune for 1 CDs from canada / japan imports ) the original as the quality is just superiour, but worth it... then I can/will rip for PC or portable use.

I do know why people use p2p or I maybe how I would, senario..... group A has new single out it sounds great... you like it, life looks rosey :) you then listen to another track the radio station plays.. ok you think I get the album of 14 tracks for £14 only to find the only good tracks are the ones you have listened too... OH JOY a wasted £14 .. I would love to be able to sample the whole CD before buying to see if it was worth my hard earned cash..... IF the music industry has nothing to hide then they would allow customers to download listen to all the tracks of an artist, so you could judge if its worth it... QUALITY control if you wish!

as many a time I have bougth a CD only to find maybe 1 or 3 tracks are good the rest are pure snizzle!!!

Couldn't agree more Halo, except for the Cleetus bit. :)

I have never listened to a CD album where every track is great.

It's always a couple of songs are good, and the rest is rubbish.

The alternative sucks, a single isn't good value. Here in Aus it's about $7, and an album anywhere from $10-$30.

Sometimes I think the Recording Industry is it's own worst enemy.

Hats off to Apple though for offering quality singles for download. (although some of the restrictions suck, but it's a great start that's very profitable)

On the negative for Apple, Adrynalyne uses it. :p

Yeah there is a bit of a price war on Cds going on in the Uk over the past 6mths which has seen prices come to a more respectible level, concidering we all know how much a blank CD costs ( music companies must think we are all hicks ) and that they DO not pay the artist a vast amount from the total CD cost ( do have the breakdown somewhere on who gets what as friend, she works for BMG ) they are taking the piss... so to speak!

we now pay for an Album around £9 = to au$22 so about a mid point to what you pay, still high for some of the drivel they release :)

I imagine with Apples iTunes that the way is download over original cd what tracks you like from whatever artist and build your own compiltaion up thus making it a good buy for your cash, bad news in the future for music stores?

I actually cracked up when I first saw Got Root.

Having a root is Aussie slang for having intercourse.

    Who wouldn't want Root!

LOL, nothing beats British expressions, I love them. (and their great comedies and sense of humour).

'Avin' a larf, Guvna, driving me mota, 'avin' a lend, taking the piss, you're a nutta etc. Rule Britannia!

And just be careful of Spyware.

A lot of versions of LimeWire (not the Pro version) contain it.
