probally the easiest way is to open voice recorder (under accessories in the start menu) , record what u want said and then burn it onto a cd.. thats the way id do it but im sure there are other ways.

Thanks, I'll try that. What I really want to do is record something that is on the web. It is the audio part of a speach, and was hoping I could record directly to the CD as the person was speaking. Kinda as you would with a home CD recorder and a TV. Thanks again.

I use Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. This is a free program. You can set it to record your mic.in or what you here. It's a easy program to use,Once you record what you want you can save it as wave, and then I use Nero to put it on a CD .Good luck Chuck

I just saw this part (was hoping I could record directly to the CD as the person was speaking.)I don't know of any way of doing this. If you find something I'd like to know,as I record speaches and this would be quicker.

I dwnlded Audicity and found a sound clip and recorded and saved it as it was playing. Not sure yet if I can just record any sound coming to and out of my speakers. Have a question. How long of a recording can I get. need an hour or so I think. Can it do this? Have not tried it on the speach I want to record yet.

Yes you can record up to 80 min. but I try not to go over 70min. A Cd will hald 80 min. When you open audacity in the top right there is a drop down box you can change this from mic. to (what you hear) and it will record what is coming over your speakers. Chuck

Just a quick question Strange1. Why do you want to record straight to CD? Recording to a file on the hard disk allows you to tweak the levels, edit out any pauses or things you don't want, edit the start and end points to make them neater, adjust the output level, "normalize" the data to make sure none of it exceeds the safe 100% recording level above which you get distortion. Lots of things to make sure your recording is as good as it can be. It takes a fair amount of hard disk space to save the interim file data, but you can delete that once you're finished and have it on CD, if you want to. It will also convert and save to .mp3 if you want a more computer friendly format to save as well. Audacity is a great recording program, and can do a lot to help you get the best recording you can. I used to do some live recording work back in the Analog days, and always hated having to catch it live and live with however it sounded.

Thanks G.T. for the feedback. This is a speach that I want to record so would like to record it direct to a CD if possible. It has now music so ultimate sound is not a necessity. Is it possible to record direct to a CD.

Audacity did the trick. Had to dump it to hd dr tho and then record it on a CD. Haven't been able to figure out a way to record directly to CD tho. thanks for all the help.

Glad to hear it worked. If you want to clean up some of the noise,You can go to effects and noise removal Chuck
