Anyone know good proggie to remove vocal tracks from a cd? preferably a freebie, and one that is easy to use.

Nick. Are the vocal tracks itemised on the CD? If so, couldn't you copy them onto your hard drive, delete them from your hard drive and burn another CD? Should work if you can separate the vocals from the music. But you probably thought of that. :D Bazza

Damn edit time limit. Nick, forget previous post. I misunderstood your request. I assumed that you were talking about conversations/interview tracks not "vocals". Am I right in assuming that you want to use the tracks for karaoke or something similar? Baz

I'm sorry to say that unless you have individual tracks (that include the vocals) there is no easy way to do this.
Most proggies that 'suggest' that they can do this simply allow you to kill certain frequencies which really doesnt effectively do what you want.
What you may find are crappy midi files of popular tunes.
It's not the real recorded music but re-interpretations/recordings of the music minus the vocals.
There just isn't any software out there that I'm aware of that is truely smart enough to *really* remove vocals from a sound file unless it's split into individual tracks.

    Try out google link

    http://www.google.com/search?as_q=karaoke&num=20&hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=remove+vocals&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=lang_en&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&safe=images

There must be something there to help, but I tend to agree with fiver22. Haven't tried to do what you are trying but would like to know how you go. Bazza

Sorry Nickson, I just got back an email from my mate who incedently has his own recording studio, sadly it can be done with hardware equipment but still not very successfully... the vocals would need to removed at the mixing stage.

I think the midi route is a good one to try.
