A friend of mine uses MSN dial-up internet, but she keeps getting kicked offline every so often.

I've heard there are programs that will prevent this.

Can anybody link me to a good (and free) one of these programs?

    Thank you in advance. :)

There's one called Tickle that, erm, tickles the ISP connection periodically and randomly at timing periods you set. It's shareware, not free. http://www.worldlynx.net/pgerhart/_tickle.html

It's my understanding that MSN automatically disconnects users without warning after 8 continuous hours online, though it allows immediate reconnection. I hate the lack of warning and lack of an option to continue without a disconnect. One way around it is to do your own disconenct and reconenct when you're between chats or downloads or whatever -- that is, when you don't mind a brief controlled interruption -- so as to thwart the 8-hour limit.
