I'm currently at work on a computer running windows XP, working behind a firewall that will let me download material, but not install programs. I have no administrator access.

I am trying to play music directly from a Curtis mp3 player plugged directly into the USB port. (the computer does recognize it as a removable mass storage device) The computer has windows media player classic (no other windows media player), but will only play one file at a time and it is bothersome to click "next" after each song. It also has quicktime which has no option for creating playlists (to my knowledge) and some generic CD player that will not play files directly from any drives besides the CD drive.

Does anyone know of a program that can run music from either harddrive or this USB port from behind a firewall?

There are all sorts of Players
Unfortunately, they require installation. Is it a possibility to ask the administrator ? besides that, be happy you have mediaplayer.

So there are no web-based media players out there? Anyway I can configure a program designed to stream music from websites to play my media files? Or is there some way to make a playlist for windows media player classic or quicktime?

My administrator won't install the program for me because I float between 11 different computers between 5 different rooms... he can't take the time to install it on all of them. Besides... I can always burn some CDs, or just listen to streaming radio stations. I just really wanted to find a way to play mp3s.

Not sure if this is a good idea to present, but you could try to place WinAmp (or other music-player) on the USB-drive(using another computer), and then launch the program from there. Have seen older versions of WinAmp work without being installed.

Usually there is a reason for blocking the install of new programs, and most IT departments shouldn't mind helping you install a newer version of Media Player (in example ver. 9.0 or 7.1 depending on your version of windows).
