Hey folks i am new to networking i want to try and hook up two of my computers together, one in different rooms, (there is a bout 3 inches of drywall between the two rooms) one of them which is using dial-up right now to connect does not have an ethernet card. I heard Linksys is a great brand but i don't know what to get ie; wired, wireless, i am also concerned about security, do i need a router with built-in firewall etc?

I am willing to spend $100.00 tops get somebody get me on the right track.
Both computers are PC Desktops, running windows XP, one has 512MB Ram the other 1024MB Ram. I will be checking this post regualrly for help thanks a lot!

Linksys or Netgear wired or wireless have worked well for me through the years. I would go wired if price is a concern since you only have 1 wall to go through. Also if your ISP supplied modem is also a router you could go with just a switching hub but make sure you have a software firewall install on your pcs (zonealarm or other internet security package like norton or macafee)

Also you can install a nic in the other pc or around 10-15 bucks!
