can you give us more details plz (ie - windows xp sp2, how much ram you have, etc), this way we can help you better (it could also be malware, but let's start with the basics). did this start all of a sudden? do you have a current antivirus program (if so, then what), do you have any antispy programs installed (if so, then what)? if you right click "my computer" you should see this (link below). g/l, sos

Sorry I thought my attachments went through on the original post. Here is the hijackthis and a deckards system scanner. I couldn't seem to get to attach the first time and thought they did. Any help is most appreciated.

    thanks

Hello, prozzac- just a couple of things I see without a lot of searching...

Have your used wildwolf's links yet?

    Nero may have issues:
O23 - Service: Nero Registry InCD Service (NeroRegInCDSrv) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero8\InCD\NBHRegInCDSrv.exe (file missing)
    * You haven't uninstalled your old Java versions & updated to the latest

    More!

I see you have Windows Messenger (the Malware Experts recommend removal if you don't use it) and a bunch of games loading at start-up.

Other than the things that DrM pointed out, I see nothing that would lead to a frustratingly slow PC. I strongly recommend a visit to the maintenance link provided above by WildWolf. Follow the steps there and you just may be surprised. A bit of regular maintenance goes a long way. Then again, if you have aging hardware, all the tips and tweaks and maintenance in the world won't speed things up beyond the limits of your hardware.
