Need Ad-blocker, Or Win 10 Problem?

Help! I switched to Win 10 last week, so I'm getting used to it. I apparently already have a pop-up blocker working, but my pages are taking forever to load. I'm using Firefox (latest version) and I've refreshed it, so I wonder if an add-blocker would help. (I had one before Win 10 and it was helpful, but I don't remember which one.) I also keep getting something across the top saying Firefox is not responding. This banner, or whatever it is, covers up the tabs I have open. Then I can't click on a tab to close it, or do anything on the current page, such as scroll down, click on a button, etc.

Are these Firefox problems, or Win 10 problems? What should I do, aside from screaming, crying and pulling out my hair?!

Any problems if you use Edge or Internet Explorer? If they are OK try starting FFx with no addons (it's in Help)

Thank you - I'll try Internet Explorer and see how it does (going to bed now). Umm. . .what is Edge? o_O

Was your switch to W10 an upgrade from w7/8, or was it a clean install?

What security software do you use?

Satrow, I did an upgrade from Windows 7, right from the link that Windows 10 had on my screen. I still have several gigabytes of Win 7 reserved, in case I want to go back within 30 days, but I don't think that's the problem, 'cause I still have lots of space available. I have Advanced Systems Care 9 for security.

Thanks for everyone's help -I sure need it!

Just to clarify about that program, Advanced System Care. It's a registry cleaner and system optimiser. It is definitely not a security program. Windows 10 has inbuilt Windows Defender and a firewall. That is your current security, plus anything else like an anti-virus program or anti-spyware program you may or may not have had installed in Win 7. They remain if they were there.

You can launch Microsoft Edge and/or Internet Explorer at any time to see if the problem occurs with them as well.

Let us know if you had success when restarting Firefox with add ons disabled (Firefox > HELP > Restart with add ons disabled).

ASC is in no way a security product, I'd uninstall it, at least during troubleshooting (though I wouldn't advise you to reinstall it).

Download Autoruns and run it, agree to the license terms, then press the Esc key as soon as it starts.

From the Options menu, check only: Hide Empty Locations and Hide Windows Entries. Under Options > Scan Options, check: Verify code signature, Check VirusTotal.com and Submit Unknown Images.

Press F5 or the Refresh button to restart the scan. The far right column indicates the status of the VT scan, the slowest part of the process, once all available files have been scanned they'll show numbers like 0/57, 2/54, etc. - then File > Save - Autoruns.arn (usually the default name is fine, the type is most important = .arn) on your Desktop.

Zip that .arn file (Right-click it > Send to > Compressed folder) and attach the resulting zip file to a reply here, please. We'll check through that for any likely problematic Startups and give you details on how to temporarily block any we think might be involved.

Thank you, everyone, for your help. A family emergency is keeping me from dealing with this right now, so I'll be back soon to try the suggestions and let you know how it goes. Again, I'm grateful for your suggestions!

Back again, finally. Here's what I did and it seems to have worked!
    1. I turned on the Windows Defender and disabled my Firefox add-ons, thanks to Max Turner.
    2. Then I downloaded the Firefox adblocker UBlock Origin an hour ago (mentioned here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/urgent-notice-from-firefox.306761/#post-1963364).
I'm hoping that will be all I need to do, because I'm a "Nervous Nellie" about computers, and despite the detailed directions (thank you, Satrow!), I cringed at the thought of going through your suggested procedure. I will take my courage in hand and do it if necessary.
    THANK YOU, EVERYONE!
