I have a Windows 2000 (basic Home Edition) laptop. If I'm watching a DVD movie and I pause the movie, can anyone tell me how to do a screen capture so I could print or save this frame. Does Windows have this capability or would I need to download software? It was suggested that I try Cyberlink Power DVD (thanks for the suggestion) but I would prefer using free, or cheap, software. Thanks ever so much. Cool site.

I know lots of folks will chime in here with suggestions for their favorite freeware players. I happen to use freeware Media Player Classic, and it can do screen grabs very nicely, also can generate sets of timed thumbnail captures.

If you don't want to install additional software, you can
capture for absolutely free from Windows Media Player.

Open Display Properties from control panel or by right-click on desktop, go to Settings tab, click Advanced button.
On the window that opens, select the "Troubleshoot" tab, and set Hardware Acceleration to None.

Then I can pause a video in WMP, and just use Windows Print Screen keyboard button, paste into my image editor, and edit & save the screen cap.

Set the Hardware Acceleration back to original setting when finished capturing.
