Need advice on a new motherboard

I need to replace the motherboard in my HP laptop model# ZE4420. I am an extreme rookie and I really have no idea what to look for. I am one of the many whose power connector snapped off from the motherboard. I took it apart today and tried to fix it but the laptop will still not power up. I have an old laptop so please don't laugh at my specs:

AMD Athlon XP-M Processor 2200+ (1.8 ghz)
256 MB DDR SDRAM
ATI Mobility Radeon (M6) 4x AGP

I would like to upgrade to at least 1GB of RAM and I believe AMD is less expensive than Intel. I would like to keep the cost low. I tried to find the socket# but I can't seem to. Any advice is greatly appreciated

 

Your current laptop XP-M processor is socket A also know as socket 462
Socket A/462 is exclusive to AMD

 

Thanks for the info. Do you have any suggestions on a motherboard. Does it have to be a certain size to fit my case? Does it have to be a certain brand? I appreciate your help.

 

You'll probably need to use an exact replacement
Good Luck on that ( maybe you can find the same exact model on Eeekbay or google "used laptop's" and or "laptop parts")
It may be more cost effective just to find a new used laptop

 

Thanks ASUS. I really wanted to get his one working but it's more trouble than it's worth I guess. Dissapointing
