Need advice on motherboard replacement after small fire :)

Power strip connected to pc caught on fire and seems to have fried motherboard. Only thing plugged into power strip was speakers and hub. However, powerstrip was plugged into UPS. Power strip got liquid in it, started sparking and caught fire. Anyway, put out fire and checked out pc. Cant get video. Replaced video card and still nothing. Pretty sure motherboard is fried. Now to the real question. When I replace motherboard, If the cpu is damaged and I put it in the new motherboard, could it fry the new one? OR, would it be safer (obviously more expensive...) to just replace the cpu as well? Any thoughts on whether the cpu is likely to be fried as well? The only thing that caught on fire was the power strip, but I heard noise coming from the speakers when the sparks started shooting out of the power strip. I do not want to fry another motherboard, but hate to spend the extra on a new cpu if this one is ok. Thoughts and suggestions would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Am starting to feel silly here, Can anyone tell me what they think about this? All I need to know is if anyone thinks its a bad idea to put the current cpu into a new motherboard. Is there any way to test a cpu to see if its damaged without trying it in another motherboard? By the way, there is absolutly no acrid smell in the case at all - does not smell like anything fried, just acts like it. The only thing that flared up was the with surge protector which had the ac adapter for the speakers and the hub plugged into it.

I have an FIC AMD KT-748 motherboard with an AMD Athlon 2200+ processor. (socket A)

No need to feel silly SuzyQ.
I read your thread earlier, I guess I throw in 2cents now.
    Anything is possible I guess.
Was pc on when had fire?
    Is the power cord intact?
When you try to powerup what happens does any fans run, any beeps, lights or led's?
If your mobo fried, possible other hardware fried too.
Your question about testing cpu, I dont know of any way to test doesnt mean that there isnt, could it fry another mobo, great question? Humm!
    remove cpu inspect closely.
First I would Inspect all hardware, inspect throughly any burn marks look closely maybe use magnifi glass?
    Inspect all cables/plugs/connectors, everthing.
    Test power supply.
Possible mobo & cpu are still good, Reset cmos, usually by removing mobo battery temporarly, and sometimes in combination with jumper r & r, then powerup if seem's to come to life try to access bios, after reset bios would revert to default settings you may need to make changes, can see if all drives are detected.

Thanks so much for the reply. It really helps to have someone to bounce these things off of.

Here are answers to your questions.
Yes, pc was on when fire started. I immediately turned off ups which shut down pc.
    Power cord is intact.
At power up, cpu fan comes on, power supply fan comes on, hard drive sounds and feels like its spinning up, but normal boot up sounds do not occur - no beeps at all. No video. Tried changing out video cards and switching monitors to no avail.
Have tested hard drive in external drive cage, all files seem intact.
Have tested power supply, readouts normal.
Have looked at all components under really bright light and do not see or smell any damage.
Tried resetting cmos both by motherboard jumper reset and removing battery temporarily.

I just hate to take the chance that putting this cpu in a new motherboard might damage it in some way. However, as with everyone these days, money is tight and I hate to waste a good cpu if its ok.

If anyone knows anyway to test cpu, I am all ears :)

P.S. Also having kitten fixed so hopefully no more accidents on my power supplies!
