Need advice on protecting new computer

I just bought a new computer with Windows 8. Norton internet security was installed for trial period. I am not quite used to Windows 8 layout and am not sure where to find out whether it has a firewall in place. Does Norton include firewall? If not, should I download and install a firewall immediately?

After the Norton trial period expires should I renew it or should I download some free antivirus and anti-malware programs from this site?

 

No matter what the software you choose, it is only as good as the end user's habits. Microsoft Security Essentials and the Microsoft OS Firewall are the best for best layer protection.

As for Norton, get rid of it. As for Windows 8, keep everyone updated on any issues tha you run into with updates and non-compatible software that you run into.

So far there has been various issues with Microsoft updates causing issues with 8, and certain drivers and software not working properly with it.
