I got my new rig all put together and configured and it runs great!(setting up that RAID array was a pain)

One thing is bothering me though.

My PSU (antec truepower 480w) had exactly enough cables to hook up all my components, incuding case fans.

I have 2 front fans and one back(exhaust)

I wanted to add 1-2 more fans, and a 5.25" Temp monitor/fan controller.

How much of a better PSU do I need to get a few (3-4) more power connectors.

My PSU has 2 cables that i dont use, dont even know what there for. There is also a connector in the back of the PSU(outside the case).

can I modify these to work for case fans?

One of those cables is an additional power plug for Pentium boards but I've never used either of those cables myself. As for hooking up more fans, any computer shop sells Y connectors(?) that has male and female plugs. You just plug it inline with any other power connector.

    sweeeeeeeeeeeet

does that come with an inherent risk of overloading my PSU?

also, is there a way to monitor the load on my PSU?

I have everest, but didnt see any info there about the PSU.

    thx alot guys.

Not likely. 80mm fans don't draw a lot of power -- maybe 2-3 watts if they are high-speed/high-volume fans. Low-noise fans generally use less than 2W.

If you really want to be careful, Google "power supply calculator" and use one of the calculators that come up to figure out just what PSU capacity you need to have for your system.

Another observation -- do what you like with it: one of Vancouver's better suppliers sold me a 350W PSU for my system. Specs are below. I suspect that you have as much capacity in your PSU as you'll ever need.
