Sure, the first step would be to go the device manager to see what drivers need to be installed. (Start>Control Panel>System, click the Hardware Tab, then Device Manager) Look to see if there are any yellow ? or !. They would be the devices that need drivers.
The drivers can be found here:

Thanks Musksnipe. I went into deivce manager. I look for all the yellow question marks. I found: Base system device, and two other base system device. So in total that would be 3. I also found 2 PCI Device, SM Bus Controller, Universal Serial Bus(USB) Controller, Video Controller and a Video Controller (VGA Compatible.) These are the drives that I am missing. I went into the Dell site under downloads. The names that are required on my laptop are not the same as the ones on the Dell site. By looking at what I need on my laptop, can you tell me what drives I need. Keep in mind that through my laptop I cant access the internet(Wired or Wireless.)
Thanks in advance for all your help so far.

Are you able to use the CD/DVD drive on your son's PC? We can install driver's that way, by downloading and saving them to a disk on the PC you are using to get on the internet with.
One thought is this: if you have no programs or data that you want saved on the old PC AND you have the Dell Recovery disc, it might be just as easy for you to do a format and re-install of XP. The reason I say that, is because if your friend wiped most your drivers, he may have also wiped other important stuff.

See if there is a service tag number on the bottom of the computer. You can go through musksnipe's link and get the exact drivers for your Dell with the Service Tag #.

If that does not help you, try putting Everest on a CD and run it on the offending laptop. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

The Everest download links are in the center of the page, just under the 2.20. Click any with the flag symbol. Download the set-up file, save it to a disc, install it on the other PC. When you get a report of all your hardware, save it into a text file, then save it to a disc, and upload the report here.

This is your chipset driver: Intel 945GM- Driver Install this one first.
This is your audio driver: STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio
This is your video driver: 945GM Graphics Controller
This is one of your network drivers: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG NetworkConnection
This is one of your network drivers: 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller You may not need to install this one. It might be part of the chipset drivers
Install these and let me know what is still missing. The download and install steps for each driver is on it's own download page. Once down loaded, save to disc and transfer for install on the other PC. You may want to print out the install instructions for each driver.

None of the drivers worked? They are all Dell and specific to that model and your hardware. You can order a recovery disc from Dell if you really need to. It would be cheaper. request backup disks.
Is there a recovery partition on that PC?
