Need Desktop Support/

I have a Hewlett Packard Pavilion 6646C.

500Mhz Processor,i think it is a p2 or p3.
20gig HDD.
198 SDRAM PC100 Ram.
with a SIS 530/620 8MB Video Card.

Would it be easier to Buy a new mother board and ram and video card to make this desktop up to date so it can beable to run smooth on the internet and play a few online games.


Also running Windows XP Pro.

This Desktop came original with Windows 98SE.


Any information would be appreicated very much.

lol i typed this post for my friend at his house on his desktop.it was a typo.

But the game runescape is very choppy and slow when he plays it.it is like running at 10FPS. He wants to make it run decent.

Or if for cheap replace the MOBO with something with a hi p3 or a p4 processor.

 

No point trying to upgrade a PII or PIII, the motherboard bus is too slow.

Runescape isn't a very demanding game though, what sort of internet connection does he/she have?

 

Its an old PC and I wasn't planning on investing to much in it before I could affrord a new one, but Iwill try putting more memory in it to speed it up some. Thanx for the advice. Oh yea, one more question, I plan on getting a new computer before the summer is over, which one would be my best bet? A cople of people tell me to get a Dell,and other say a Compaq and so on. In your opinion which would be the best choice? I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something reliable. Thanx again.
