need driver for a burner, looked everywhere can't find it

my sister got a computer from a family member and the burner isnt reading anything, ive been searching for it but can't find one, the computer is an ibm and the burner is hitachi and the model no is gd 3000.. does n e one know of i direct link which she can download it from... thanks heaps

 

Drivers for cd-rom's and burners are allready in the operating system, could just be a bad reader, what makes you think there are no drivers? ed

 

our uncle said that we needed drivers for it to work, well he also said that it needed nero or something to work, but i knew that wasnt the prob

 

Go to start/my computer[right click]/properties/hardware/device manager/dvd-cd-rom drives,double click, it will bring up your drive double click your drive, see if it lists a driver, if it does you can uninstall the driver, restart and windows will reinstall the driver, i dont think that is the problem but it cant hurt. Have you checked that the flat ribbon is pushed on the burner all the way? ed

 

unistalled it and reinstalled, it said device is installed and ready to use, but it still dont work, it reads cd's but it did that b4, why isnt it reading dvds

 

In the device manager did it say dvd-rom?, are you trying factory games or movies? You will need something like power dvd to play movies or games. ed

 

a movie, we intalled nero, nero has software to watch it, even data dvds dont work

 

may it be because she needs codecs

its saying there is insert disc (by using that prog), just give up lol??

 

Do you get an optition to play with windows media player?, if using 10, it will play dvd's with codecs from other programs like the ones you installed, if it wont work, Im lost. ed

 

just realised its a dvd reader... not a burner, uncle said it was a burner but yer, thanks lots for your help. Sorry for the trouble, was much appreciated ... tash
