Linksys has stopped support for WMP54GS. Specifically for older versions like my version 1.1. (remind you of Microsoft and XP?)

How do I get the driver? I need it to install the adapter which I own in a desktop.:confused

You need to tell us what version of Windows is the desktop you're putting this hardware into.

The suggested site for driver download gets me a blocked download, blocked by my protection software that declares that malware is in the download.

My desktop is running Windows XP but I plan to move on to Windows 8 when I get to it.

Sorry I didn't test out the DL from post #3 and my AV software flagged it also as malware. Sometimes you can't trust these bastards. If I were you I would pass on Win8 and go with Win7 or wait for Win9. Just an opinion, mind you.

I went there and there was instructions that I could not understand. There was even complements from some readers saying it worked great. I am puzzled. The first instruction said "go to update drivers" and I have no clue as the where that is located. I may just buy a new adapter.

    @Old Eagle

I'm a bit confused. I understand that my suggestion in post #3 made your protection software (and mine also) squawk, but did you try plodr's suggestion in post #7?

I found no instance of "go to update drivers" in the site he/she sent you to, which leads me to believe that you didn't even try it.

I didn't try it because I don't understand it!! Here are the instructions at that post:

    Open Update drivers !!!
Then Choose to find files your self
Then Find selection to search for a List of Devices
    Then Select Network Adapter
Then Choose BROADCOM (Chip used by WMP54G V1(no model Version located on sticker)
Then Browse down to Linksys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter WPC54G V3
    And Apply Those Drivers !!!

Now you tell me what that first line means. Go to WHERE for doing "Open Update Drivers"?? I didn't try it because I tried every thing I could think of to find Update Drivers and never got a result. Can you help? If so please, please do.

Start> Run> type: devmgmt.msc > Select adapter from device list> left click, then right click on update driver

This does require you be connected to the net, so if you can temporarily hardwire the device it would be highly advisable.

    :)

I can't make your suggestion work as I can only get online from my laptop and it is not the desktop where the adapter is located. I really need the driver as a file, as on a cd or flash drive so I can transfer to the desktop. The desktop can't get on line due to the adapter not working without its driver. I don't have a way to direct wire the desktop to the router that serves my computers with internet connection. All of the help from people and sites that I have found so far thinks that the adapter is in the computer I can use to get on line.

I have ordered a USB connected adapter with cd and cable and two antennae (count them, 2) at a total cost of $8.69. This is from an Ebay seller. Used but O.K.

    1. You click the large download button with arrow
    2. You get sent to a 2nd location with a download
    Softpedia Secure Download US
    3. You download the zip file to your laptop.
    4. You put the zip file on a USB stick and walk it over to your computer that has no internet access.
    5. You copy the file from the USB stick to your desktop.
    6. Unzip the file.
    7. Install the driver to the desktop computer.

I do this all the time for the "seniors" I help. I carry files (new and updated) they might need on a USB stick that I take when I help them. (I'm also a senior citizen).

I know I am sometimes stupid or thick, but WHAT large download button? Tell exactly what you are referring to if you can. Where do I go to see this "download button" ?
