Can anyone identify my modem or suggest a generic driver for it?
The modem doesn't have a brand name on it. It does say CNR V1.2 and GQ3121 There is also what appears to be a logo: a backwards R and U that are joined together followed by 1 205.
I just formatted a PC with WinXP Home and it can't find the PCI Modem drivers on the WinXP disk or the web. (The PC previously worked OK with this modem, but had a pirated copy of WinXP - that's why I reformatted it.)
It's a no-name PC. I've tried updating, rollback, reinstall, uninstall and physically removed and reinstalled the card.
The PC works OK with the Wireless Card I installed and with a direct cable connection but I'm going to give it to a friend who only has a phone line for web access.

Conexant PCTel. I'll see if I can find a driver. Driverguide now wants $$$ for any driver download with no guarantee that it works.
You may be able to download without paying. You do need to sign up for an account. Here's the driver, I think.

(if you can't see that page, let me know).

As far as the GC, all I'm finding are computers made by Fry's using the Great Quality name.

The Conextant PCTel drivers I found are from a German site but the model is not yours.
    It is AC '97 models 2303, 2304 and 2588
    the site
    Code:

It might be easier to tell whomever is receiving the computer that it will cost the price of a new modem. Then just install the new modem with the included drivers on the CD or let XP load the drivers.

    Thanks for trying.
I've got another old clunker (I think it's got WinME on it) that may work.
They've never had a PC, so they don't want to sign up for cable service until they know they'll use it. I think the modem works in that clunker.
If I can find the drivers, maybe I'll swap it.

    Thanks

Many pcs of this era had a combined 'software' modem and sound card. If you remove the modem you also remove the sound. They were in a small 'CNR' socket, not a regular PCI slot.

Does the audio work with and without the modem?
Is it regular PCI or CNR?

I have some connexant pci software that might do
Send me an email address by the forum private messaging.

The link plodr gave at http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=194267 may very well work for your modem. You just need to signup giving them an email address and navigate through some ads to get the download for free. Just create a restore point before installing the driver and if it doesn't work you can immediately go back and start looking again.
