When I got my new Pc (w/Vista) I used the old sound card from the previous set-up without considering that the old pc had WinXP OS.

What are the drawbacks to using the XP drivers? It does seem like there are some frame rate hiccups in a few games where there were none before. Could this be related to the sound card drivers?

I'm confused. :confused You had a PC running XP. You removed the sound card from it and installed the sound card into your new PC running Vista. You then used the sound card's WindowsXP driver with your Windows Vista PC. Is this correct? If so, why? Were you unable to locate a Vista driver for the card? If you can post the make and model of the PC and/or motherboard, and the make and model of the sound card, I'm sure we can get the right sound card drivers for you. So, you're saying the Vista PC was running fine, games were running smooth and fast, but now that this sound card is installed, the games are lagging or are choppy? Have you tried removing the sound card just to see if it makes any difference?
Anyway- if you can post the info I requested, and if you can answer the questions I've asked, I'm pretty sure that we can get this sorted out for you. ;)

Hello dlb, to be short, I used the drivers that were on the install disk. After installing I then checked the box and saw that the OS's supported did not include Vista. A google search did not turn-up drivers for this card (I did not want to exacerbate a problem with other drivers that did not match this card) just drivers for 7.1, 5.1 etc.
I have not removed the card yet.
The mobo info provided by sisandra and cpu-z both list manufacturer as Lenovo (the pc manufacturer), Intel chipset P35/G33/G31, Southbridge Intel 82801GB (ICH7/R), LPCIO IT8718.
The sound card is a Maddog Prowler 4.1 DSP.

After much research and endless Googling, I found out four things:
    1. Mad Dog appears to have gone out of business. At the very least, they do not have a web site.
    2. Your sound card uses a CMedia 8738/C3DX sound chip.
    3. The Cmedia web site has no Vista drivers for the 8738/C3DX chip (or any of their other chips)
    4. Thankfully, someone out there has taken to developing open source Vista drivers for the 8738/C3DX sound chip. The download page can be found at this link.

I hope this helps. If those drivers don't solve the problem, you should really just pull the sound card to see if it really is the cause of the issues you've described.
