I have a new laptop with DVD burning capabilities. I have a DVD that was made from various videos of my family events. I would like to make copies of it so give to members of the family. What is a good DVD burning software that will solve my problem? I have tried DeepBurner Pro without success.

    I am open to suggestions.

I Like Nero 6 Ultra the best.
DeepBurner pro or the free version should be fine.

What kind of problem are you having?
Are you using a compatitable media format, some burners only support DVD+r or DVD-r
    What you got?

I have DVD+RW and DVD+R. DeepBurner Pro went through the notions for me but nothing happened when I tried to play it.
Is Nero freeware or do they have a trial period?

    Does your Burner support +R
Nero used to have free trial, not sure now, check MG front page or neros web

    Here's a popular free one:

Try playing on another dvd player
Can you view the DVD on your notebook?
    What brand media using?

Do yourself a BIG favor and download the latest Nero 7 Ultra Edition Trial Version.

The "Trial Period" is 30 days after installation. I usually like freeware solutions but all of the ones I tried for burning were either very, slow, very buggy or both. Someone in another forum suggested that I try this Nero 7 Ultra Edition program. Although the license costs around 80 bucks (if bought from the Nero website) it is well worth it in the time users will save using Nero - as opposed to the other freeware burning software. Also, you can probably get this program for way less than 80 bucks on e-Bay.

I test a lot of freeware programs as a hobby so I collect quite a large number of different versions of utilities and program .exe and .zip installation files – probably in the thousands. This is the fastest burner I’ve ever used – burns an entire CD/DVD in just a few minutes! Has every program burning option known to man for burning DVD CD Audio, Video, Photo, Data and you can capture, create, edit, author, burn, backup and share digital media using Nero 7 Ultra Edition.

Note: This latest version of the Nero 7 Ultra Edition burning suite, installs a fairly useless "media database" component called Nero Scout. Basically, the Nero Scout is a media indexer which constantly runs in the background, looking for new media files, i.e. MP3s, videos, and photos. This also adds several entries to your Windows startup, including "NmBgMonitor.exe" and "NMFirstStart.exe" which can unnecessarily hog system resources.

Therefore, since the Nero 7 Ultra Edition program will run fine without this useless bloat; I would suggest that if you decide to download Nero 7 Ultra Edition - to immediately disable the Nero Scout right after you install. Right-click on the Nero Scout icon and choose Options. Then uncheck the option for Enable Nero Scout.

    Good Luck!

    Another way to try.

Grab CDImageGui. Create an ISO file.

Once created use ImgBurn to burn it. It is up to version 1.3.0.0 so grab that one if you need to.

    Both freeware.

I didn't know you offered any advice until now. I'll check it out and let you know later. This subject is pretty well over my bald head but I want to keep working on it and learn more about it.

    Thanks!

OK. now I know what you are talking about. the answer is: no, because I didn't understand how to use these programs but now that I understand a bit more, I will have to use these and see how things develop.

    Thanks again!

It was an older thread of yours. Heh, there are no worries sir, I was only feigning disappointment. There is some excellent advice here, you may not need my input at all. The apps I recommended can sometimes be a little much for new users. Nero (as most people are recommending) is a very good program, and is probably easier to use. The only drawback is that it isn't free...

Well, I have tried several different programs and still can't get one to burn a DVD that works. I now have downloaded Nero 7 and have tried to burn the iso image to a CD-R, a DVD-R, & a DVD-RW. Each time it goes through the action of burning it but when I put it in one of my two DVD players I always get the message "incorrect disc". Do you have any suggestions?

BTW, I've noticed a real slowdown since I installed Nero and it is probably because of Scout so I will disable it.

    Thanks!

You need to use Nero Vision if you want to make a DVD that you can watch in a standalone player. It's part of Nero 7 Ultra.

OK. I used Nero Vision and imported the concert from a DVD to a file in Nero. Then I followed the steps and burned a DVD. Before it finished I got a message that all the space had been used up and to insert another DVD which I did. Later when I checked on it and it had finished I put the DVD in my player. The first DVD gave me a message "Incorrect Disc"; the second one started played at the beginning of the concert as if it was the first one. Any ideas about what happened? Also, could you explain to me, simply, what I need to do in order for all the content to go on one DVD?

Thanks for your time and trouble.

Well, one always hates to admit to error but I must do it. I just got the two DVDs crossed up and the first one is the right one and had the whole concert on it. So that problem is solved. However, I am wondering why I was instructed to insert another DVD, suggesting that the first one didn't hold the entire content,.

Oh well, maybe I'll find out sometime.

I have Nero 7 Ultra and want to make a copy of a DVD I have with a concert on it. What steps do I need to take to place a copy on my HD and then burn it to the DVD? Will this be an ISO file?

I have the concert on my HD and it ends with .nvc. I used to have it but it ended with .iso - I don't know how it got changed.

    Thanks!
