    Hi there

About 2 months ago, I bought Need For Speed Shift, and I've been playing it many many times without any problems, all my hardware etc. is more than enough to play this game.

Now, yesterday I got myself a new SAMSUNG SyncMaster 2233RZ (120hz), the "real gaming" LCD screen you know. :) It's awesome, incredible contrast etc.

Well, and now NFS SHIFT won't start.. I don't know if it is because of the monitor, or if it just happens to be a coincidence, if not EA Games is screwing everything up? The only other thing I've installed so far since I last played Shift, is Splinter Cell Conviction (Ubisoft), but I can't see how that would have anything to do with the problem.

What happens when I start up the game, there's this small black screen in the upper left corner (as it should be before it switches to fullscreen), but it never get's to fullscreen, then comes this small screen that says something like "Need for speed Shift has stopped working" ___ (I'm not so good at translating) ___ "Close Program" ....

Also, I HAVE installed the drivers for my 2233Rz, and every other game works like a charm! (And I must say, Mirror's Edge on 1680x1050 @ 100Hz..... WOW!) ;)

Shift just won't start, I've tried reinstall it and reboot my computer like 4 times, but it probably would have been enough rebooting it once :) hahaha. I just wanted to make sure.
I can't think of anything else but a resolution/graphics issue, though I have played the game with the latest drivers for my GFX a couple of times before.

    Mo/bo: Asus Striker II 790i ddr3
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.5Ghz (Q8300)
    Mem: Corsair XMS3 2x2GB 1600Mhz (@ 1333Mhz)
    PSU: 750W APX
    GFX: Gainward Nvidia GTS250 1GB ddr3 (2x - SLI)
    OS: Win 7 64bit

As I said, don't think this is a hardware issue, since I've been playing with the exact same system for weeks! It's ONLY SHIFT that won't start!

Please, come with any ideas! I really feel like I've been dumped in the face and slaped around enough already =)

Hook your old monitor back up and see if the problem persists.
    Might be a resolution problem.
Might also have to reduce the graphics quality on the new monitor.

The problem is, I haven't got my old monitor around ;P hahaha, it's a long ride from here... :) Otherwise, I would have tried it, of course!

But I don't think reducing the graphics on the monitor is necessary, since the game itself is recommended to run with this particular monitor. (It's "3D Vision ready" and all that crap, and so is Shift)

Though I have an old LCD from LG standing next to me, might test with that one. Though that one can only handle up to 60Hz :) hahaha

Just did a Google search for "Need For Speed Shift has stopped" and received more than 10 pages on different things about the game.
Some said to cut back on the refresh rate to checking EA for a patch.
Might want to check those pages.

Okay, well I've already installed the 2 patches, the only ones I've found on EA's site, and I've tried decreasing the refresh rate to 60hz (this monitor only has 60 / 100 / 110 / 120, can't choose 75 / 85 which usually exists)

But it fails just as well with any of the rates :p

I'm gonna try the other monitor now, and we'll see what happens =)

Ok, I just confirmed that it should not be the monitor's fault, the other monitor said the exact same thing... Though I guess it could as well be the monitor's (2233rz) driver's that is spooky... I have no idea :S
Gonna try to uninstall the driver for the monitor, and see if it does any difference..

I have the EXACT same problem. In changed monitors and it won't work, yet it will work with the old monitor. Did you get the problem fixed? If so, how?

are you using drivers that came with the monitor?
if so you might want to check it's manufacturer's web site for updated drivers

I indeed have loaded the latest drivers from Dell. My problem, again, is the same of this guy in the current thread. Again, I can plug in my other monitor and play the game. Also, the monitor I am having problems with, it came with my new PC, I can actually play the game on the new PC with the "problem" monitor, but not when I swap the monitors around. I must keep the monitors the way they are as I use my old one on my new pc for my job / work.

the only thing i can suggest is to try an older driver that's for your monitor just in case the current ones have a bug in them.:(

Excellent idea, I will pull the drivers from the new PC that came with the monitor. Standby.

Hi! I haven't been around lately since I've moved to my own place, and my freakin' internet hasn't come to life yet :D

SO! The problem with the NFS Shift - monitor - shit and all that, was that the resolution was too high or something, I don't remember exactly! I can't remember weither I deleted the savegames, or if it was a specific file you could delete.. You might want to try to change the Start Dir. from the shortcut of the game, and add "-w 800 -h640" or whatever it was, if you've ever played CS you might know what I'm talking about =) Hope it helps, I can try to re-do the problem on my own PC and have another look! :D

    Regards
