Need For Speed Underground 2 Problems

I would rarely post asking for help with games as I can generally figure out the problems.

In this case though, I need help!

Installed the game fine, go to change the display settings to run at higher quality than the lowest settings, sound freezes, screen goes black and monitor into power saving mode for 5 seconds and then pc restarts.

Drivers you'd think?
Tried the ones that came with my card (6600GT), the latest from www.nvidia.com and a stable set from last November that nVidia released which I know to work with every game except this. Could it be a conflict with the game, corrupt file?

 

system specs?And have you tried a clean reinstall? and is this a ledgit copy of NFSU2?

 

I've done 3 reinstalls of Windows within a week, 2 to my sata drive and one to my ide drive, both didn't work.

And of course it's a legit copy, would never ask help for illegit software .

AMD 64 3200+
Gigabyte GS-K8NS-Pro
2 x Elixir 512mb PC3200
Club 3D Geforce 6600GT
Liteon 12x DVD +/- R/RW Drive
Liteon 16x DVD Rom
Maxtor IDE 80gb 7200rpm w/ 8mb cache
Seagate SATA 250gb 7200rpm w/ 16mb cache

That should be enough, also other cards such as 5.1 Soundblaster and Belkin 54g PCI cards.

 

Try to run the game with NO Sound at all turn it all off try the game does it work perfectly if yes sound driver issue.....

Answer - lose connection to the power supply for graphics.

Although the game still freezes, I believe this to be an issue with the disc, very scratched - ah well no great loss!
