Need General Help ASAP!

Well, recently I've been experience serious lag in 3rd person shooters, such as MOHAA. I've played it on the same computer now for a year and never had trouble until now. I've updated all my drivers for Nvidia Gefore Mx440. I have AMD 2.4 gh, 512 RAM, Windows XP. I've bought Norton and removed all spyware, adware and viruses. I don't understand it, it never happened before so why is it happening now? Thanks ahea dof time.

 

it possible that theres a mess up in the new drivers..try going back to olderones; or possibly somthing eles you updated is affecting it. Also maybe when the game updated you didnt update an old hardware piece so now its conflicting...could be a million things really

 

run a hard drive cleaner such as crapcleaner and defrag your hard drive

 

I pretty much have the same setup you do. Same display adapter, o/s, and 512 RAM too. I also had the same problem with that same game. I work on computers for a living and if there is one thing I learned>>>>Microsoft Windows 3.1/9x/NT/2000/XP all are very anal retentive about installing and removing drivers in the proper way. With your problem the best way to solve that is to totally remove the driver from Device Manager. Then install just the drivers, not the software, from your CD-ROM by you telling device manager "Have Disk". You may be prompted to browse your cd-rom for files but if succesful the card and game will work fine. If your using the most updated internet files from the web you still will want to complete remove any existing display adapter drivers on that port. XP will put a driver on there after your removall and restart but that's ok to leave that one and just update the driver.
