I'm in need of some hard drive imaging software that will run from within Windows XP. Here's exactly what I need: it has to run from within Windows and it has to copy/image drive C: to a blank/new hard drive hooked up thru the USB port. I'm not sure if it's possible to image the drive you're actively running Windows on, but if there's an app that will do it, and it will send the image to a new HD on a USB port, I need it!!! So, if someone can provide a link or a program name, or let me know that this isn't even possible, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanx!

WOW! It's a 102mb download! Downloading it now, but I'm thinkin' that one of the HD's needs to be a Seagate, no? That's usually how these things work... I'm gonna give it a shot anyhow. I do work with lots of Seagate drives, so I'm sure this will be helpful. I'll be sure to post some info about this if anyone gives a :crap

BTW- Have you ever used XXClone? I've been thinking about using it for a looooong time, but (for one reason or another) never got around to it.... I'll check it out, and I'll post my results/thoughts/opinions if anyone gives a :crap

I've used Xxclone. Works great. At least I didn't have a problem with it. Made my external hdd bootable so in case something happens to my main hdd, I can pull the external out of the case, set the jumpers to master, replace the main hdd with it, boot up, and back in buisness.

Yes, I have used it. Nice way to install a new hard drive in your rig. You can get a new drive, copy the old disk to the new on, then just shut it down and put the new one in and boot it up! Also good for backups.

Yes, Fred, XXClone is a handy little tool, and a small download, too.
By the way, the Seagate Disc Wizard - I use it, and you can mount drives, do anything, and I am sure it will clone any hard drive, but I only use Seagate.

This is what you see when you open it on the desktop:-
    Pick a Task
Pick a task you want to perform on the local computer.

    Clone Disc
Clone your hard disc drive by copying partitions to another hard disc. Use the Windows version of this Seagate DiscWizard to confirm that the drivers for your new disc drives or controller cards are loaded and ready. The bootable media works best when the hardware interface types are the same since the bootable media cannot load new device drivers.

    Add New Disc
Add a new hard disc drive to your computer.

    Image Backup
    Back up your hard disc.

    Image Restore
Recover the entire hard disc contents.

    or Pick a Tool
    Create Bootable Media

Yeah, the Seagate Disk Tools works great with Seagate drives in my experience, but not too well with mixed brands of hard drives. I have had mixed results with Disk Tools cloning my Seagate drive to a Western Digital, but have had no issues (yet..) doing it with XXClone.
