    So, I was attempting to clean up my dad's desktop. He only had 13GB left of HD space, and the system couldn't even perform a defrag.. so I went ahead and deleted some programs that he doesn't use. Got up to 27 free GBs, and accidentally I go and delete my Soundmax multimedia audio controller. Now I have no sound! I have a vague idea of how to fix the problem, simply install new sound drivers.. however, I have no clue where my XP disks are, so I was just hoping someone could point me in the right direction to the appropriate drivers for my system. (Yes I tried doing a system restore to a day before, and it didnt work)

    I went ahead into my system information to show to you all. Maybe you can help me:

    Name: Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
    Manufacturer: Microsoft
    PNP Device ID: MODEMWAVE\O\{205B76BD-5F89-4EA7-B956-E18E292918E5}
    Driver: c:\windows\system32\drivers\modemcsa.sys (5.1.2600_0 (xpclient.010817_1148), 15.75K...

    As I said, I'm looking for the right place to download the approapriate version of Soundmax audio card. Please help me ASAP.. I gotta hear my music!

    Try hitting Windows Update: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

    Choose "Custom" update and look for any appropriate audio drivers in the "Hardware, optional" section. Other than that - you can see if there is a manufacturer's website with downloadable drivers for that audio card.

    "you can see if there is a manufacturer's website with downloadable drivers for that audio card."

    The last thing I would want to do is be rude, but that's what I've been trying to do all day. I'm not very tech savvy, and my dad's very upset that there's no sound coming from his computer because of me. I am sure this is a very basic problem, but I honestly have no clue which website to go to to get these drivers. Could someone give me some more specific help? Thanks.

    I've done everything you said and nothing's working. Your first suggestion I tried, custom and everything. Downloaded the audio driver, and installed it, but it still wont play any sound from my cpu!

    Then I did suggestion number two, and ended up here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/NotFound.aspx?NoMatch=audio card&lang=eng

    there seems to be no matches for Soundmax audio cards. I know that was the thing I deleted, and I am sure that I have an Intel Pentium 4 computer. I believe I'm at the right site.. and I am still clueless. Can someone please help me, or even just find out the EXACT driver that I need to download from an specific link? because nothing else is working, and my dad is pissed!

    Hi everyone,

    it's been a couple of days and I still have no sound on my computer. Can anybody point me in the right direction? I understand that I need to download the drivers from a specific site, but I have absolutely NO clue how to find that site? Can I please get some specific help? (a link, maybe?) I gave plenty of information regarding my system specs and drivers

    Could you give some more info?
    What kind of soundmax card do you have?
    What is your make and model #'s of your PC AND motherboard.

    Thanks a lot everyone, but I finally found a way to avoid these methods. I simply put my cpu in safe mode and system restored to a week ago. Everything is peachy now! Thanks alot!
