my computer, mainly internet explorer is on crack... i have no problem getting on the internet and going to sites. but when i check my mail, whether on yahoo or hotmail, internet explorer just shuts off, no error message, no nothing. so i can't check my email on the computer, and i've played with the cookies and no avail. and then when i try to get updates from microsoft, internet explorer does the same thing when trying to download the new service pack. if anyone knows how to fix this it would be great. thanks

    Try this..

open up WINDOWS explorer (not internet exporer) by going to start.. run.. type explorer and hit enter.

in the address bar where your file location shows, remove that and type www.windowsupdate.com and see if you can get to it that way.

Try what Kodo gave you for Windows update.

And to attach a HijackThis log it must be in an acceptable form for uploading. You need to changed the HijackThis's default log file extension from .log to .txt. You can do it when you save the log to begin with by selecting Save as type: and changing it to All files (*.*) and then in the File name: box change the default hijackthis.log to hijackthis.txt

You can also just rename the file after you have saved it using Windows Explorer.
