Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, ross91...

There are about a million different flavors of dv9500s - I'd suggest going to the HP Support site and plugging in your particulars...you should be able to get the correct drivers for your model and OS there...

dv9610us << sorry that was what i was looking for. It looks like the Vista driver is all you need it will work with either xp or vista. Install that driver and see what happens. again i am sorry for the inconvenience.

    Hi

Sadly that PC came originally with Vista and HP have not listed the majority of the drivers for XP for that model as it is likely that they will not support the downgrade due to newer hardware not 100% of the time having fully working drivers

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3548477#

This is an issue with downgrading an OS, now you "maybe" able to locate drivers for your hardware but in my experience the majority of the time its hit and miss to getting the correct one, as you will have to try a few unified drivers out (these are the default ones many hardware makes release that cover many model hardware chips, like Audio, LAN, WiFi etc) or find an older model PC with similar chips to the hardware you have and see if those have XP drivers available.

Cannot proimise anything but do the below so we have a listing of the hardware inside your PC.

Not in the main they dont, some XP drivers could work with Vista, but generally its not the other way around.

    Hi

Dont need you to attach another Everest log in a Notepad text file at this present time, read the specs of your Laptop at HP so try the below. Please do follow the instructions as written as instructions are done in a way to help you help us, deviate from them and we/I wont know what you have done, same with attaching logs over copy and paste.

Install the Chipset driver from HERE and reboot and its important to reboot.

AS you have XP Sp3 then you should already have the Microsoft HD Audio driver (UAA driver installed) so just install the Audio driver from HERE and reboot and test sound is workin, if the audio doesnt work then we may need to run a registry trick and fool SP3 into thinking its SP2 to re-install the UAA driver and instructions for that are at the very end of this post, but only use if Audio doesnt work.

The WiFi driver should be this one HERE

If Video/Graphics are not looking perfect, XP should install a decient enough driver but if not then try this oen HERE (as you have a GeForce Go 7150 onboard graphic GPU)

ONLY do these steps if Audio doesnt work to see if fooling SP3 into thinking its SP2 and installing the UAA drivers and then Audio again works ok, but do follow the instructions to the letter.

    Hi

Try the UAA link from HERE as it should work now.

The UAA driver is needed for High Def audio to work in Windows XP onwards, it is built into SP3 for XP and default with Vista and Windows 7, but in the case of Windows XP it could be damaged due to malware or like your incidence due to downgrading the Windows version and no direct drivers being available for your hardware.

Did you also follow the information on installing the chipset first and rebooting and then installing the Audio driver? if not then do so, if you did try the registry chaneg information to the letter and see if that helps.

The SMBus is the System Management Bus (hence SM) that basically controls the motherboard and its interaction with other devices on the motherboard such as Audio, Power Management, USB controllers etc its a crucial part of the driver set.

In Device Manager tell me all if any of the devices that have a yellow ! mark on them?

Have you installed the Chipset driver yet? I only ask as you questioned what the SMbus is and the Chipset driver installs this.

Only other Audio driver for XP and the Connexant Audio chip you have that may work is this one HERE
