Bought the Folder Lock program and have a problem when uninstalling it.

When we use Folder Lock's Uninstall Option we get a message on reboot that some of the Windows XP Service Pack 2 files were removed. It then asks for the Windows XP CD to reinstall some of the operating files the Folder Lock uninstall program removed. We are using a Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 laptop, which doesn't have a CD player in it. We don’t have the original Windows XP CD either. Same thing happens when trying to remove Folder Lock using Windows Add & Remove Programs Option in Control Panel.

After we deleted the Folder Lock Program and choosing the option not to insert the Windows CD after rebooting - Windows became very unstable – giving us a lot of error messages.

We tried using our Desktop XP CD on an external USB Hard-Drive but the program said it wasn’t the original install disc. Don’t have the original Disc.

Can’t understand why the Folder Lock uninstall option would delete important Windows operating files or why its support team won’t answer our question or reply to our emails.

Does anyone know how to manually uninstall the Folder Lock Program so we don't loose the needed Windows XP files or how to get the deleted Windows files reloaded onto the laptop?

    Thank you,

    Skid

I would start with a check disk as a system file check might require the Operating System CD. If your version of Windows isn't an upgrade the files required should be on the hard drive in Windows.

Manual steps to run Chkdsk from My Computer or Windows Explorer

1.Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check.
2.Click Properties, and then click Tools.
3.Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed,
4.Use one of the following procedures:
•To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, click Start.
•To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, select the Automatically fix file system errors check box, and then click Start.
•To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.
Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message: The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?
Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

    Good idea Bugballou,

We tried what you suggested. Unfortunately we still had the same problem. Folder Lock has been a real pain in the neck.

We tried your suggestion and so many ideas we had – to many to list hear – that we almost gave up hope. For some odd reason the files associated with the Folder Lock Program can now be removed – manually – which we could not do before. We put them in a separate folder – different directory – and will see how the laptop reacts over the next week. There are still files in the Registry for Folder Lock but we will leave them there until we see how the system reacts.

Anyone thinking about trying the Folder Lock Program should do so with caution. It has been our experience that the program has many problems and there is no support for the product from its creator. We have read many post with others having odd and unique problems after using the Folder Lock Program.

Thanks again Bugballou for your help,

    Skid
