I have a sony va10 pcv-rx1 with sony recovery discs , I went to format the comp with my XP sp2 (do not ask why), every thing was going OK then it started to say that certain files could not be found had to press retry then I had to press escape to miss that part but it was coming up it could not find a lot of files , I had to switch off then restart , it ask for my XP disc which I loaded then it said it could not find the hard drive. I have try to load the sony recovery discs but it will not except them.
Is there a way I can re-format the computer even if I lose every thing and start again like a reset

If you don't already have a plan B, get a backup program & storage. A small USB drive can store the basic stuff like bookmarks, resumes, software licenses, etc.

There are many hardisk-formatting tools, but Windows setup include a basic one. On the screen setup asks you to delete/format the harddisk, etc., choose format.

To start over, insert the xp disk, reset computer or power off & on, press a key for xp setup when a message is shown at the bottom of the screen. It may not be visible entirely on some monitors.

it could be possible that the cd/dvd drive is bad, or your disk is bad? :confused do you have another cd/dvd drive that you could try? i'd try wiping the drive, then retrying to install your os.

this will d/l an .iso file. you need to burn it to a disk, by doing an image burn (not as a data disk), using your fav s/w (ie - nero, roxio).

should you try this method, make sure you don't have any other drives installed (ie - external h/d's, or a 2nd h/d), as it will erase that as well (it happened to me, but i had already backed up that data)!! - g/l, sos
