Alrighty, so my computer can connect to the internet fine but I can't get on MSN, AIM, can't update my anti-virus, etc. It says my default gateway is offline. My brother just moved out so my other brother took over the router with his windows vista, could that be the problem? I'd really like to get this fixed without calling Atlantic Broadband (ISP).

    Thanks :)

I would start by checking your firewall settings, since you can connect to the internet it would have to be something in your settings not the isp. what type of router do you have , what firewall are you using?

I'm using windows firewall due to when I use zonealarm it blocks my internet overall. I'd really like this issue to be resolved because it just came up last week. The router is Lynksys WRT54G. Even with the firewall shut off it still wont work.

I keep going back to the firewall. I'm not a fan of disabling firewalls, but just for test purposes shut down the firewall in windows and the router and see if it connects then. also as a test can you hook the pc directly to the modem and see if it connects, that way we may be able to narrow down the problem.

I tried resetting both the modem and the router at the same time and that didn't work. I turned off the firewall to the router and my computer also and that didn't work. I link a ethernet cord to my computer from the router, my brother's computer is the main computer.

Try to run a cord from your computer to the modem and see if it works then, if not then it may be a setting in your computer, if it does then the problem is in the router or router settings.

Tried that, still got the default gateway offline error. I'm using MSN messenger to troubleshoot and that's what it said. If the default gateway is offline, how would I reset it? I was told by my friend that all I needed to do was reset it, but he never told me how.
