I have a Dell desktop on which I have a partitioned hard drive XP and Xandros 4.0 operating systems.

I have an Ativa Wireless G usb adapter with the software disk on which I conect to the internet via XP, I am trying to configure this software to run in Xandros 4. (using a MS 2000 template install)

but cant get it to run the CD driver software supports XP and 2000 so the template install should work

Anyone have an Idea what I am doing wrong? and how to correct this I'm wanting to be able to configure it so I can connect to the internet in Xandros so that I can download updates

Is there a linux based driver for the ativa wireless usb card (looks like a flash drive with a stand and a cord)

    any help is appreciated

    Thanks in advance

you need a package called "ndiswrapper"

This makes it possible to use the windows wireless drivers on linux.

A google search for "ndiswrapper" should provide some assistance in using it.

This article might help explain setting up and using ndiswrapper

sad to say, I tried on an HP notebook and I could not get it to work. I'm sure, in my case, it was user error.

Good suggestions here but the thing about Debian and later Ubuntu derivatives is that sweet restricted driver manager , If you can't get it to work with available methods use one of the smaller foot print distro's based off Debian , Like Xubuntu.

PCLOS2009 has the ndiswrapper included with the kernel. I use the Ativa ODWGU.inf file with the ndiswrapper, instead of the Belkin USB2.0 WLAN, to get wireless up and running with the Ativa Wireless G USB Adapter. Dual booting PCLOS with XP Home, XP Pro, and Windows 7, on two desktops and one laptop. On the Windows 7 box I used GRUB as the loader (MBR) because the Windows 7 boot sector was on a different partition than the rest of the operating system, and at the time I was unaware of that fact, using NTLDR as the loader along with the pclosboot.lnx file, the line c:\pclosboot.lnx="PCLinuxOS" added to the boot.ini file, and Grub installed to / on the two Linux/ XP machines. If it wasn't such a pain getting wireless running on it I might still be using Ubuntu or Kubuntu today. I try to stick with Mandriva based distributions, and a Puppy, DSL, and Knoppix thrown in for fun and knowledge. Have Sun's latest distro's .iso on the desktop now, just need to burn it to give it a try. :-o

here is a link to a fairly good description of how to use ndiswrapper.
It is slanted toward suse, but it has all the infoneeded to make it work.

swerdna does a good job of explaining things.

I have ndiswrapper installed on a dell inspiron 1200 with a dell wireless card - workes great
