Need help installing a HD

A friend of mine recieved an old PC with a VIA Cyrix III-750A MHz processor and 128 MB, 133 MHz SDRAM from a friend of his and wants me to start working on it, upgrading it for him and what not. The original HDD was an IBM 3.2 GB model DAQA-33240 E182115 manufactured in November 1996 that would only boot up Windows 98 in safe mode. I happened to have a spare 4.3 GB Seagate HD from an old Emachine my sister gave me, which has one of 3 OSs on it, either 98, 2000, or ME, I'm not sure.

My friend was thrilled to hear that I would upgrade his 3.2 to a 4.3 as thats 35% bigger!

Which leads me to my new problem, now I was aware this wasn't going to be as easy as plug-n-play, but after connecting the new HD I get the error message "Primary master hard disk fail"

also there is a line that says

Primary Master : S9 ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! F1ZAZAS9



I looked up F1ZAZAS9 on google and no sites came up with that string of characters, to my amazement.

Right now I'm not sure what to do and I wanted a second opinion (or more) as to what my first step should be towards getting a functioning OS on this new HD.

It is possible that both drives are set as Master if you have them both plugged in. Check the Jumper settings if using both drives and make sure that the cable is plugged in correctly (ie light on front of case will stay lit if plugged in upside down). One drive should be Master, the other should be Slave.
