I have a presario CW57 439Cm laptop. The hard drive completely failed. So I removed the old drive and purchased one the exact same. Seagate SATA 250 GB. This laptop had no recovery cds so I downloaded Windows 7 Home premuim 32 bit from digital river. I went through the install but now it is stuck saying
windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer restart the installation. When I restart I get the same. I really need help. Can someone guide me through this?

Contrary to what many, including Digital River may tell you, Digital River is NOT an authorized distributor of Windows ISO files. Consequently, the files downloaded from DR are NOT official and are NOT certified by Microsoft to be legitimate, complete, or safe.

DR and sites, including forums, that link to DR downloads may soon find themselves in serious criminal trouble. See Microsoft files DMCA complaint against Websites hosting or linking to Microsoft software illegally.

I recommend you contact HP/Compaq tech support, but understand, you may need to purchase a new license. :( This is why it is essential for all computer users to make backup/recovery disks as soon as they get their computers and regularly thereafter - especially if their computer did not come with Windows installation disks - as many don't.

Yes do get in touch with HP and seek there advice on this as random downloads from the internet will not help you as your licence key will be linked to an OEM licence, unlike many supposed ISOs that are retail keys.

The main retail ISOs are from Microsoft store direct or via those with MSDN accounts.

So for you the HP restore disk should couple with your OEM licence ok. OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer and those are the likes of HP, Dell, ACER etc basically those 3rd parties that supply us with great PCs.

David, they can use the Iso downloads from digital river with the key for their machine. Only difference between the OEM copy and the digital river, is that the OEM has the drivers for the machine on the disc and the extra garbage.

What makes me scratch my head, is why the OP did not make the discs when they got the machine, since that is the very first thin it asks you after it goes through the initial startup out of the box process.

What says so? Since Microsoft has stated DR is unauthorized, they can't. DR claiming they can is not justification.
