Hi everyone - not sure where this should be posted but here is the dilemma. The system is an Acer All in One (kind of like an Imac setup with a keyboard and monitor/computer in one). The system upon powering up will enter the Windows log in screen, with backphoto, etc. once you put in your password (or, PIN), it goes into this blue screen saying ":( Your PC ran into an problem bla bla Stop Code:System Service Exception.

I've tried many attempts to get into the system to confirm drivers, or virus' etc but I can't get past this loop of rebooting. I've tried to "Shift Restart" and enter into the Troubleshooting phase and have tried advanced options booting into safe mode with networking. Always goes back to the log in, blue screen, etc.

I tried to got to system restore point and was unable to accomplish..Please see attached photos.

If you can help me out, it would be appreciated. I'm not sure if its a virus or a software of a driver issue...

    Thanks

    N

You failed to mention the version of Windows.

    Windows 10.0.17134.1.
In the first image it shows Not enough memory resources are available to process this command.

Hi there sorry for missing that, this would be windows 10.

Second, yes that was the first image that popped up when I tried to run chkdsk through the command prompt, however, when I did try to enter Safe Mode with Networking via command prompt, I got a success message, only to exit and start the loop again.

So I'm getting arguably mixed messages while still unable to navigate through some way of checking my drivers, or accessing the computer as it loops through the whole log in, blue screen, log in, etc.

Can you run the Memory Diagnostics?

Hi - I can definitely try - I am not in front of the computer yet but can be in a couple of hours. What would be the steps to run that - is it via the 'Shift Reset" button or some other moves...Also - to confirm, I'm sensitive about wiping the system as I haven't technically backed up my system - I've saved files but no backups of the drive....

I can run any bunch of steps in a couple of hours and report back - apologies for the gap.

Ok let me try Method 2. As for the drive, yes, I'm trying to avoid any internal machinations and hope to get in through the interfaces/software way....

What's the history? Is this machine new to you? If not, was it ok before? Did this happen after running updates or installing or updating anything?

it was working fine up until this saturday - I couldn't even tell you if it was an update. There was one install we did that allowed remote access from another linked computer for work purposes which is what the system restore point was supposed to be doing but other than that nothing.

And as I mentioned, I can't even get to bypassing the initial log in screens yet. but I will know in a couple of hours after I try this memory diagnostic.

Is this where it went wrong? Are there any other system restore points you could try? If not, and as it won't boot in Safe Mode, you may be facing a reinstall.

To Earthling - no - it was working fine right up until this past monday. In fact there is a utility app on the computer that we run that asked if we wanted to update the drivers, which we did. I think it was that that set it off. but I'm not an expert.

I did run the Memory Diagnostic Tool from the command prompt - did 2 passes and all the way throught said there didn't seem to be anything wrong. System restarted and went right back into the BSOD etc etc.

what I also just did is pull up the System Restore feature from Shift Restart - and got the 18th and the 10th as two restore points, plus the 'affected' programs. it does say that it doesn't delete documents etc - but seeing how there is a Microsoft office 365 I'm worrieda bout blowing up the system. you can see the TeamViewer in there as well.

    Try a System Restore point.
The only "damage" to MS Office 365 will be updates being rolled back. They can be re-installed.

High probability that the driver update was the culprit - driver updates are a common cause of BSoD. As Eldon has advised, try a system restore point, that should fix it. From your OP it didn't seem likely you would be able to do so but as it's about your only hope....

Once it's up and running think about learning how to image the system from time to time. Restoring a known good system image is the surefire solution to problems like this. And I'd advise not using that utility app in future.

Hi there - ok - so I did run another system restore point last night, going back to the 12/10/2018 in post #14 above. I've attached the error message from that (as well as the files from the System Restore Point from post#14)

I also ran a system repair tool from the CMD prompt and was able to generate a log file but can't access that, unless there is a way through the command prompt section.

Am I able to do any of this cleanup through the command prompt?

THere is one other system restore point I believe, that being the Windows Install, but I can't recall the date of that....as I noted, my primary concern is of the Quickbooks files and some documents that are located on the desktop, which I'm hopeful to be able to retrieve by entering into that Boot mode....but one thing, each time I have tried to get into the Safe Mode/Safe Mode with Networking, it goes back to the whole loop.

Also, recently, I've noticed that it is not connected to the internet.

Anyways, I do appreciate your efforts to assist me here, I'm not that tech saavy so am approaching this rather cautiously....

The error message is the same as you posted in #1, IMG_4086.JPG which means you possibly ran the same restore point again. I'm not sure of exactly how many restore points you can see but it is at least two so you need to run the other or one of the others. If, as you say, one of the restore points was created at Windows install then most of your software would be uninstalled but that doesn't look to be a problem, it's all free stuff. The only one I'm not personally familiar with is Office 365 but as long as you know your login credentials reinstalling that ought not to be a problem either. Your personal files shouldn't be affected.

I can't see any other solution to this other than system restore but that doesn't mean there definitely isn't one..

I attached the wrong screen shot. Sorry.

This is reflective of the most recent restore.

I will be back at home and check the last available restore point and revert. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks. The failure of both system restores, but at different points, does suggest disk malfunction. We need to run a diskcheck at boot. You can do chkdsk C: /f/r from command prompt using the advanced startup options in Shift+Restart

  21. Bluesbreaker

    Bluesbreaker Corporal

ok so at the command prompt it will be C:chkdsk/f/r?

I gave you the correct syntax

ok- here is the screen shot of the chkdsk C: /f/r
I have not exited or anything and am still in the cmd prompt

Update - so I ran another system restore after the chkdsk procedure. got the same error message as above in post 19, and when the computer rebooted and I logged in, the computer went into safe mode! so I was able to transfer the relevant files out and am now thinking what should be my next steps to rectify this solution - both preventative.

The computer is an Acer Aspire Z3-715 all in one. The Windows is cloud based business subscription (so I download versus install from a disc).

What should I be doing next to either 1) fix the problem (if at all) to go back to normal mode or 2) am I ok to go into normal mode.

Thanks again for all your help...

Hold your breath and see if you can login normally.

so basically shut down and reboot?

    Yes, or just Restart.

You have had a pretty serious disk error which, unless the box had experienced a heavy bump, simply should never happen. You need to protect yourself against a recurrence and if it was mine I would grab a system image and put backup procedures in place for your personal files. This assumes it's now booting normally, which you have yet to confirm of course.

Hi everyone. Ok so later last night was able to reboot the computer out of safe mode and into normal mode. Some butterflies and we were back into normal mode. I had created a windows USB recovery disk from my other desktop computer just in case.

As I understand Acer does have a recovery partition on its own hard drive for what that may be worth.

I think if I back up Acer hard drive with a Outsdie hard drive would be a smart move given that disk error we got earlier

My other question(s) would be what is a system image and how do I do it. How do I activate it when I’m in the same mess like I was before and lastly what does it do

Again thanks for being there through this. Was very helpful

    Good news, close call!

Yes it does and in its default state it can restore the computer back to its factory condition. Better than nothing but, unless you have other backups, it means loss of all your software and data.

What's an Outsdie hard drive? Or is is that simply a typo for outside?

There are far better tools available than this but it's the place to start with imaging

Yes sorry I meant external hard drive that connects via USB. I think I’ll create that system image into the external hard drive as well just to have

So all good for now, made a backup recovery USB on the Acer for the Acer, created a new system recovery point (and did one for my own system just because I want to be prepared!) and will have saved copies of all relevant docs in the external drive (aka Outsdie hard drive hahah I couldn’t remember the term) so I think I’m covered

Again thanks for all your guys help wishing you a happy 2019nin advance

    Stay Major

The external hard drive is the correct place for the system image. When a second internal HDD or SSD is present then that's also a good place. Images should never be stored on a partition of the system drive as the image may not be available in the event of problems with that drive.
