    So I recently had a virus which with help from the malware removal section is now gone.

    From that I have learned that I shouldn't be surfing the net on an administrator account. Now I am trying to make a new restricted account for myself, it won't load up. I can go to the control panel ---> user accounts ---> create a new account and then I can create the account. However, when I log out of the administrator account and try to log into the new account, it does not load up. I get this message:
    Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that you are connected to the network, or that your network is functioning correctly. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

    DETAIL - The system cannot find the file specified.

    Also, while we're on the topic of user accounts, now the other three restrictive user accounts that had already been created before this virus, get a weird message when they open internet explorer. It says that the security settings may put the computer at risk. The message pops up from just below the address bar. However, it's not a message I receive on the administrator account.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Yes. Both those links I already know how to do. I've tried both ways, doing a user switch, or completely logging off and trying to log onto the new account.

    When I do click on the freshly made account is when I get the message:

    "Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that you are connected to the network, or that your network is functioning correctly. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

    DETAIL - The system cannot find the file specified."

    In the mean time until someone can give me some insight, I've managed to find a work around. I made a new administrator account. When I tried to log onto that account, I got that same message, but it still logged me onto the computer. Since that new account was an administrator account, I went to the users section and downgraded it to restrictive. That is how I am typing this now. I haven't tried to log out and see what happens if I try to login again.

    Given that you went through a virus removal, I would try three things;

    SFC /scannow from a command prompt.

    If running XP, dialafix,

    Finally, a repair from your recovery partition or disk, make sure your data is backed up, though it should not be lost. :wave:wave
