need help moding windows

ok so basicly i wanna mod the screen you see when you are entering your password to logon to the system. i know of programs like boot skin and such but i would like to do it manualy is there a way to do this?

also id like to modify what is displayed when your copy a file rather then the files flying from folder to folder i wanna make it something cooler looking later on is there a way to do this?

im thinking probably registry and maybe a dll or 2 on the plus side i have an old junker xp i can expirement on if anyone has any ideas

 

i found the way is by moding the shell32.dll with resource hacker
