Well,I have a problem with my computer. It seems very unstable since everytime im just doing anything, whether playing games or watching movies, it just freezes, then goes right back again. The CPU process is always at 100%. It wasnt like this before, now it is... Any reason for this to be happening?

Could be a number of reasons; this is not unstable though. I recomend using Spybot Search & Destroy; and adaware.

After you have cleaned your CPU of spyware/malware there are a number of things that might be wrong with your pc; since you didnt post your specs i will atempt to answer em'

Too many background programs-> look at your taskbar on the bottom right; do you see alot of icons there? they may be taking up alot of resources you might need for your programs. You can clean the programs you dont need by going to RUN and typing MSCONFIG and going to the Startup tab and removing any non esential task.

Your Programs/OS needs more ram -> if you dont have the recommended amount of memory for your OS or have minimum theres a good chance that your programs will studder. Also programs might ussaly take up more resources then the bare minimum specially during intesive processes like online gaming or video editing. Consider running Everest Home edition to see what type of ram you have and how much more you need; now 512 is ussaly the norm and 1gb is the top end.

Page File not set correctly-> Windows might be controling your page file which expands from a low number to a drastically huge one you can set this one manually; ussaly I set it to the total amount of ram to 1.5GB ; example if you have 512mb ram ill set the page file to 1gb; and if i have 1gb ram i set the page file to 512mb. You can change this by going to My computer properties then going to the performance tab/bar and accessing its properties and go to Virtual Memory. Set the size manually so it equals 1.5GB total system memory; if you have two hard drives its recommended to use the hard drive without windows installed so it doesnt lag your pc when it does access it.

    Hope this helps! good luck!

    Almost forgot last thing

Consider that you might have a virus/trojan in your system; these things replicate and make your pc very laggy and problematic...run an anti virus software to scan for possible infections and make sure the software is uptodate

Hey. My OS is Windows XP Pro, 512 Ram and running on 1.19 ghz on a AMD Duron.

Ive scanned and nothing. I have Spybot SnD and AdAware, used them both and cleaned out everything. Norton also checks everyday,so its clean.

I have 35-40 processes running at a time, and most of them are system processes.

Also,if this helps. Everytime I load up my computer,I get disk checks and I usually just go over them and dont do them. Maybe I should let it disc check?

    Well,thanks for the help :)

Er, yes. If your system want to do a disk check, you should let it.

What process is using all the CPU? Right-click the task bar and choose Task Manager. Click the Processes tag, and look at the name of the process.

Try shutting down and unplugging from the network. Shut down, pull the ethernet connection and reboot. If this changes anything post - you are probably working on the wrong computer as you are getting spammed across the network.

Also try safe mode (F8 just before Windows starts up), again post your results.

Ok,I let it disc check. Took awhile, but I can hang.

I rebooted my computer and rebooted my modem. Nothing still.

Heres a picture of all my processes if this helps

i recognize that ff background :p

theres a couple of stuff that you can "can". start up quick time and go to plugins in the options; and uncheck the box that starts up with windows (thats removing about 10mb).

Theres also some questionable tasks that i dont recognize including...

    griddeaf.exe
    motivesb.exe
    popups~1.exe
    wzqpick.exe
    afrdms.exe
    onfmspc.exe
    hydradm.exe

Also the quick links on the bottom left consume some resources from your pc and that hand icon on the bottom right i've never seen...

The hand icon is a pop up stopper :D

Well, ill try the Optimize XP thing, and whatever else I need to do..cant stand playing any thing with this...
