Need Help Please Hp wont help

Have hp pavilion a305w. Monitor comes on and I can open up all programs. But there is a oblonge box in middle of screen with a circle on left side that is red in one half of circle and yellow in other half and flashes. Rest of box is blue and yellow. There is also a 0 percentage sign in there. Can not close this box.Called hp but warranty expired so all they would say is it was not the monitor but the tower but thats all they can do. They could not tell me how to fix because of expired warranty.Thanks hp. Does any one know how to fix this please.

 

if it is out of warr. then why should they help?

i would try a differnet monitor then try a different video card. do you have extras at your house or someone to borrow from?

 

How long have you had this problem? Did it just appear one day out of nowhere? Did you install/uninstall some software before it happened? Because there's a "0%" in the box, I think that some software is trying to install or uninstall, and it's become stuck and corrupt. If you boot in safe mode, does the box still appear? Run msconfig and start unchecking boxes 1 or 2 at a time, rebooting each time, keep track of what you're doing, and if the box goes away at some point you'll know what was responsible. Also try using a process monitor to see everything running in the background, and you can probably pin it down. Process Explorer is probably one of the best.
