Need help re-installing MySQL

I am posting this on behalf of a friend that was getting timeout errors trying to post here. They will read the responses and hopefully they will be able to post a reply next time.

Oh, where to begin ...

Well, I uninstalled MySQL ... and recently have to to re-install it. However, I forgot my password (*sigh*).

I've been making unsuccessful attempts to reset the password for the past two hours or so ... and am getting a little burnt out.

I've followed directions here:

... no luck ...

I heard about you guys through a guildie and he highly recommended you

So, if you can help me out (by either resetting the pw, or removing the instance completely) I'd be forever singing your praises.
