I have a non-existent hard drive showing in Device manager but not in My Computer. Windows tries and fails to install it on very reboot and it's VERY annoying. I have tried right click and uninstall but it comes back every time. It won't disable either (drop down grayed out).

    Help please!!!

shouldn't any disk drive you have be listed there? what drive are you using to boot from?

to look more into this, check the storage area in the control panel/administrative tools/computer management/storage
should list anything attached to the computer. when you look at the properties of the scsi device, what is the error message?

running ccleaner's registry tool might fix the problem.

Thanks for the reply. I guess this it's my C Drive where the problem is. There is no error in Disk Managment properties. The error is in Hardware Manager where the drive has an exclamation point on it. I attaching some print screens. :(

Every time I restart or try to download the drivers I am getting an error from the Update Wizard, also every time I start up or restart I get the same error from the New Hardware Wizard. :cry

Why isn't the OS automatically finding the driver for the hard drive now all of a sudden? How can I find the drivers and install them?

prolly best if you get a run everest and get a hardware report.

    Heya Malik.

Firstly whenever posting any form of PC system report on the net/forum please have a quick look and remove any and all personal details. Possibly ask the admin to remove the .txt file and then repost without any personal info.

Secondly here is a good description of SCSI which may enlighten you slightly.

I would be going to MS Updates and seeing if it finds a generic Driver for you.

Actually the wiki didn't help me at all, is the drive in question my main (C) drive?

Do you mean that you are gong to look for a driver? I already tried using Windows Update and it didn't find any hardware updates at all, so I have no idea where to fins a generic driver.

Is this dangerous in any way to my data and/or applications?
    What is this driver updating/
    What does this driver do?
What makes you say that the drive is SATA when it says SCSI?
Is this drive really my main drive (C drive)?

    thesmokingun,

No luck, same problem exists with the drivers for the hard drive.

ST350064 is an incomplete Seagate drive label. Your everest report states that the drive is 500GB in size and is SATA-II compatible. The drive is the only drive in the system, so Windows is restricting disable/uninstall access to it, because then you would not be able to boot up.

Also according to the report you have 2 DVD-RAM drives that are both identical. These are also showing as SCSI so I suspect that the are also SATA drives, and that somehow Windows is seeing them as SCSI.

What we need from you now is to go into the BIOS and see what the settings are for SATA devices. (IDE compatibility, AHCI etc)

Can you tell me how to do this?

Also I have a problem with the two DVD drives, they are not recognizing the discs I insert as either cd or dvd so when I double click on them they don't associate with any applications, they go straight to the file window. When I insert a disc it will not show an icon, it will either say cd audio or the name of the dvd with the regular drive icon not the correct icon for the associated application. This happened at the same time that the C drive drivers went out of whack. Do you think that the problems are related?

I have the BIOS information now. There's a lot so let me know when you're ready for it.
