Need help removing program

hello,

I am currently running a windows xp pc and i am trying to remove a program from my computer. The problem is i don't have the original program cd and i keep getting the "missing INSTALL.LOG file" message. I have tried using ccleaner and going thorugh the registry to delete the program, doesn't work. Do I have any options without that orignal cd or am I screwed.

BTW: the program is Steinburg Cubase LE.

... and if that doesn't work, try searching your hard drive for anything relating to the program, and have a look in Processes (Task manager) when the error appears and see what's running.

 

I found a solution for this in the Khattam blog. www.khattam.info. I don't know how to copy the answer for you but if you go to his site and in the search pane type...could not open Install.log File. It should come up.
It was quite simple and fixed this very annoying problem.

give this method a try locate the program folder you are trying to uninstall in c/programs find the folder and open inside you should find the install.log file right click on the file and choose rename change to INSTALL.LOG.EXE,save the change then locate the uninstaller for the program with in the same folder double click to start.now in the menu that pops up search for the same folder and in the search box change to the same INSTALL.LOG.EXE.
when you have done this hit open and the uninstall process should start running.hope this helps good luck.

 

I have tried all of the above...still not working. There is no install file anywhere, I searched my pc as well for any files related to cubase. I think my only option is to try and get the company to get me either an uninstaller or the install.log file, probably a pipe dream at this point. if anybody else has any suggestions i'm all ears!!!!

HI, I seem to remember when I used the Khattam solution I couldn't find the install.exe file but there was a wise.file. I don't remember the extension but I think it was .exe I followed the instructions using that file and it worked.
Don't give up.

 

if you can't delete the program folder try using move on boot " http://majorgeeks.com/EMCO_MoveOnBoot_d6337.html " once the program folder is deleted remove the entry for the program from add and remove listing then clean up the registry with ccleaner.good luck.

 

well it looks as though i screwed something up because now the program i am trying to delete doesn't show up on any add/remove list. i may have accidentally messed with the registry names!!!

anyway-here's what i am looking at in regedit screen....


"C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Cubase LE\Uninstall.exe" "C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Cubase LE\Install.log"


not sure what that means but i think i renamed that entry somehow....but the data name itself is unchanged
