Need help removing various Microsoft items from Vista

In the Malware Removal Guide it states to remove all anti-virus software, before installing another because they can conflict. Windows Defender falls into that category I would think. I'm new to Vista,..ie my dad bought a new laptop and I removed all the VAIO crap software and now I see Microsoft integrated all of this and removed what was in the software removal in the previous versions. I searched the forums and could not find any such thread. If I missed it, please post a link. I appreciate any help.

Also I tried uninstalling them using CCleaner and they do not appear.

I have had a major ID theft, I have done clean installs on all and it was done on a secure net...I have a PUP.z on a USB external hard drive that McAfee will not remove.
I am exhasted notifying all, and changing passwords Learning a lot, though.
Any help on removal of this PUP.z from an external hard drive, I am not an IT professional I have a masters in Education and BA in Political Science/US History and English, allthough I consider myself knowing enough about computers, Macs and p.c.'s to be part of the problem, so in laymen's terms, if you please
