Hi i have jout brought a new 120gb hard disk that is identical to my other 120gb, i wanted to set up RAID with them both but the RAID 0, so it spreads the files.

Can this be done with the 865PE Neo2-PFS Platinum motherboard ? its got these specs on there website.

    Intel® ICH5/ICH5R Chipset
    - Hi-Speed USB (USB2.0) controller, 480Mb/sec, 8 ports.
    - 2 Serial ATA/150 ports.
    - 2 channel Ultra ATA 100 bus Master IDE controller.
    - PCI Master v2.3.
    - I/O APIC.
    - Supports both ACPI and legacy APM power management

they are both sata drives, i just wanted ask in here before i format and try to do it, i have got the ICH5R drivers on a floppy disk and also the VIARAID... i know that i need to hit F6 before setup but do i need to do anything else in bios because i dont see any options in there about raid..

Sadly you would need the 865PE Neo2-PFISR version of that mobo to gain Raid0/1 support. ( even if you did have Raid support the VIARAID drivers wouldnt have done you any good as this chipset is an Intel one )

you'll just have to setup the 2nd HD as slave.

Thanks, i will have to get one of them, im a bit gutted that my board does not surport raid

Just seen one at overclockers.co.uk for £38 its a MRi Serial-ATA RAID Controller will that do the job you can check it out on this link Click Here will it make the drives any faster because at the moment i got them running with the onboard ICH5 and they dont seem to be as fast as 150mb/s ? Will my Ram have a effect on it ? i got 512mb in there but its good stuff dual channel...

mine doesn't run at 150MB/s, that's just technical throughput not actual ... kind of like why you don't get 6.4GB/s in everests memory becnhmarks
