I am having a heap of trouble removing Ask Toolbar from my laptop. It won't be removed and gives an error message. I've tried to uninstall it with CC Cleaner but that didn't work either.

    Can someone please help me?

Please run MGtools as specified in the below and attach the MGlogs.zip file it creates.

In the future, make sure that you download MGtools.exe to run it. You did not download it. You ran it from your browser connection as shown by the below:

    C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\3MGS0W0B\MGtools.exe

Open Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the below:
    Ask Toolbar

If it does not uninstall or you don't see it, try using the below program to uninstall it.
    Revo Uninstaller

Either way, continue on with the below.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines ( ignore lines if they are no longer found ) but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: Ask Toolbar BHO - {D4027C7F-154A-4066-A1AD-4243D8127440} - C:\Program Files\Ask.com\GenericAskToolbar.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: Ask Toolbar - {D4027C7F-154A-4066-A1AD-4243D8127440} - C:\Program Files\Ask.com\GenericAskToolbar.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ApnUpdater] "C:\Program Files\Ask.com\Updater\Updater.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [AvgUninstallURL] cmd.exe /c start http://www.avg.com/ww.special-unins...QBGADkAMABVAEQAKwAxAA"&"prod=90"&"ver=9.0.894

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Delete the below folder if it exists:
    C:\Program Files\Ask.com

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Are you still having any problems?

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    2. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    3. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    4. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    5. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
