need help transfering data

    hi, can someone point me in the right direction to find out how I can transfer data programs from 1 system to another... just 2 towers .. 1 with dual lan and I can get internet on both but cant figure out how to transfer.. grateful for some help... thanks..

    If running Windows XP, use the File Transfer Wizard. Or remove the hard drive from PC #1 temporarily, hook it into PC #2 on the 2nd IDE channel and boot up PC #2. Then access drive D: (the drive from PC#1) and copy-n-paste or drag-n-drop the files you need. Be sure both PC's are disconnected completely from any power sources before opening 'em up and moving drives.

    The above is fine for just files, but it won't help for programs. Programs write entries into the registry. So you can copy a Word document over, but it won't open in Word unless Word is installed on the other machine. It will open in Wordpad and be somewhat usable, but some/much of the Word formatting is lost (until Word is installed).
