Need help transferring data

I have replaced the hard drive on my laptop computer and have done a clean install with the Windows XP disk that came with the computer. The windows installation on the old HD was messed up and I couldn't repair it. I also was getting a message about an eminent failure of the HD. I have access to the old HD with an ide to usb adapter. Is there any way to transfer everything except the Windows operating system to the new HD without having to reinstall all the programs that are installed on the old HD. Thanks for any assistance.

Unfortunately, if the old hdd was unable to boot, even in safe mode. The best you can do, is to transfer your documents, bookmarks, email, contacts, music, and other data. Transferring programs such as office products, will require a reload of said office products.

If the registry on the old hard drive is intact you can use this to move the programs:

What Application Mover Is Not

Application Mover is not a 'migration' or 'installation clone' utility. Do not use the program to move programs from one computer to another. It is not designed for this.

Application Mover is not intended to for drive swapping usage such as copying files to a new hard disk and then swapping that hard disk. See Technical Notes below for more information.

Application Mover is not an 'installation discovery tool'. It does not attempt to discover file references your program may have to files outside of the Current Path field in the Application Mover main dialog.

Done it numerous time on my puters .....from master to slave and vice versa ....as long as the registry path is good ...works like a charm.

No problem ....have had numerous occasions when a small drive was getting crowded and put in a slave drive and moved applications to that drive ...freeing up space ....just say yes to all prompts.
