Okay let me describe what happened and the course of actions of took to counter this strange malfunction on my PC.

1st of all, my system spec: Vista 32 bit, GM5478 type PC.

    2nd: How it happened...

I was playing CoD 4 (call of duty 4) on my PC as usual and all the sudden my graphic go weird and stuff and it started lagging like crazy. It lagged so bad i
However after the blue screen of death I'm able to restart my PC and nothing else happened. It turned out that the random lag on CoD4 was caused by my nvidia graphic hardware malfunction (i fixed it) (power problem)...so i dismissed the errors. :confused

    3rd: The next day...

Again i was playing CoD4 at usual time and this time it really happened. 1st the graphic went all weird and everything lagged to a drag and then BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. I tried couple of times restarting but I failed, I didnt even get to the start up screen. :(

    4th: Counter-Act

I tried restoring my system but it failed so many times, and I tried and tried again for like 6 hours. I tried to use Start Up repair, PC restore...etc. and it all failed. So I checked the diagnostic, it stats "Error Code: 0x490" "System Restore Failed" . Although I successfully run it in 'Safe mode' but everytime I tried restarting it crashed and led to blue screen of death. :cry

I don't know what else I can do or attempt to repair my PC. The information on PC is way too valuable to get cleaned up, and its all very very vital and important to my life.

Someone please help me or offer me some suggestions on my to save my hard drive and my PC.I have no idea what happened to my PC.

P.S. My CoD4 copy is real, not fake. I have downloaded nothing around that time.

Follow this guide to completely remove your NVidia drivers http://www.overclock.net/faqs/12466-info-nvidia-driver-cleaning-guide.html The guide suggests that you use this http://www.majorgeeks.com/Nasty_File_Remover_d3233.html in the process of cleaning the drivers. However, it seems the version linked to in the article is a bit newer. I'm assuming it works in Safe Mode. After completely removing all traces of the video driver, reboot in normal mode and install the newest driver available. You may want to also remove/update the chipset drivers.

    Good luck!

Did you try using the F8 key to start windows using the last known configuration that worked?

I'm not a tech, but what works for me sometimes is to take out any PCI cards that are installed, then see if the PC starts. If it starts replace each card one at a time, rebooting between each card to see if one of them might be causing the problem.

You could also try popping the memory out, boot the computer without it, then shut it down and reinstall the memory.

If none of that works you could try unplugging any drives (except hard drive) and see if it boots.

    Good Luck,

Thx for the suggestions but it didn't really help...

1st of all i cant unplug my nvidia card, because it is the only plugin for my screen. I tried to take some my 1gb of my ram out and it didnt really help either. and i tried the internet card and it didnt help either...and so did the sound card.

yes, i have tried to press F8 and it gave me a list of options, but the system restore never seemed to work for me for some reason.

this morning i tried again to restore my system to the previous state but it gave me this strange message.

System Restore Failed due to unspecified error.
    Access is denied. (0x80070005)

So i tried start up repair and it gave me something like this

    Unknown Bugcheck: Bugcheck 8e Parameters= 0xc0000005, 0x51520c24
    0x8d083594, 0x0
    Repair action= System Restore
    Result: FAILED Error Code=0x490
    Time taken= 0 ms

so...i have failed again...what exactly went wrong? someone help me!!! please someone!! give me more advice! My PC is vital to my success and survival.

    okay...ummm

I deleted my nvidia driver stuff...and then i shut my PC down...

then I unplugged the nvidia drive i have from the motherboard...

and i reattached the screen plug to the other port i have...

when i turn on my PC its like running on some sort of 'intel graphics media accelerator' or sumthing like that...

so then when i downloaded the new forceware and whatever ware available and i re-shutdown my PC again and attached the nvidia 8500 GT to my PCI..

but again it gave me blue screen of death....

i am attempting to re-install my graphic card but i failed horribly...

can someone help me please...i am in desperate need of my PC to function with the graphic card...

please. and thx for any comment and suggestions!

if onboard video lets it boot but everytime you put the nvidia card in it wont then I would guess you need a new video card. It may have overheated during game play and become damaged.
