I have two computers that I am currently networking with a cat5e crossover cable and I would like to know if it is possible to use the internet with the other computer... What is a problem is that the computer that I use for interntet has Aol with a dial up and the other computer has no modem... So is it possible to connect the other computer the the internet?

Yup, its possible. AOL does not allow Internet Connection Sharing, so you can use a program called proxy from www.analogx.com.

    Need more help...

I have the proxy program (from analogx) downloaded and running....but what do I set my computer proxy and port values to be ....On my comp #1: the one with aol...the one that has the internet access, under the Internet options' connection tab, there is an icon that looks like a phone, which says America Online. When I click on the settings button, I have the proxy server set to 192.168.0.1 and the port 6588. Is this correct? What do I set for the values on my other computer. Should I just install AOL on the other one....or can I just use internet explorer with the proxy on the other computer? I would really prefer to use internet explorer...

If you're connecting the two together with no switch or router it'll be the crossover cable no matter what you're using. The crossover cable simply turns the wires over so that the send from one pc goes to the recieve to the other. So it's the only the two can communicate one to another without extra hardware.

After installing the proxy server on the dial up pc you should run setup on internet explorer on the other machine. Just go to TOOLS, and then INTERNET OPTIONS, and then it's in the CONNECTION tab. Hopefully it'll discover your proxy server. You might also have to give the other machine's IP address as the default gateway on machine that is NOT dialing up.

    Thanks

Well, it worked.....the wierd thing is that i am using both computers at the same time on the internet and the downlosd speeds are extemely fast for a dial-up...i was downloading files form kazaa and my speeds were at 30kps instead of the regular 5.6....the whole way through...even at bandwith that said 150....
