I thought i would ask my friends here first before i make my way to fox because maybe y'all can help. I bought Live Free or Die Hard alittle while back and loaned it to a friend and well he messed up the disk (No i'm not loaning him nothing else.) I still have disk 2 that has also a digital copy of the movie on it and i was wondering can i use that to make copy of the movie on another dvd? I let it copy to the PC but when ever i try to do something with it nothing will work I even tried moving the file but it won't move:cry

Generally speaking, you need to rip the DVD to your PC first removing the protection in the process. Just moving the files around usually doesn't do anything for you. In the past I would have recommended DVD Fab Decrypter, but it is no longer free. Try using DVD43; it's free and has good ratings: http://www.majorgeeks.com/DVD43_d5940.html Some folks use DVDShrink also in order to get it all to fit on a standard DVD, but I've always just ripped the main movie only, leaving out the special features and other languages and whatnot, and the main movie has always fit on a DVD just fine. But if you need DVD Shrink, here it is: http://www.majorgeeks.com/DVD_Shrink_d4020.html I haven't used either one of these, so I can't help with specifics, but I know they work.

Not to intrude but dlb, how do you specify main movie only?

I go a round about way of decrypting the DVD to HD using dvddecrypter, Using Nero Recode to get a folder with only the main movie and then deciding whether or not I need DVD shrink. Is it DVDFab that allows you to just copy the main movie to disc?

    Thanks.

    N5638J,

The second disc does not contain the original DVD files but a small encoded copy for use on a computer or portable digital media player. You would have to get around copy protection and then re-encode it to DVD format to play on a DVD player. Not worth the trouble as the resolution wouldn't be that great. Look at the last couple comments on this page File is 485mb.

How damaged is the original Disc 1? Could Nero copy that disc even though when using the current disc the movie does not play well? If most of the data could be recovered, a fresh disc might play better.

Yes. However, as far as I can tell, DVDFab is no longer free, but I still have and use the freeware version, and it has options for 'Entire DVD' and for 'Main movie only'. Once the movie has been decrypted and stored on the HD, you can use AutoGK to backup just the movie as a DivX file without all the extras (subs, features, languages, etc). But all this is totally off topic, so I'll just shut up now. ;)

FWIW, DVD Fab Platinum is USD$50. We recently bought a copy. :) Bazza
