Ever since I installed a new hard drive in my computer a few weeks ago and reinstalled everything, my computer does not seem to want to interface with my Canon A710 IS the way it used to.

The normal way I used to download all my photos and videos from the camera was to just Copy & Paste them all into My Pictures folder. Now when I try to Paste, nothing happens. It works just fine still on my laptop, so I know its not the camera that is the problem.

I've done everything I could try with the camera drivers (uninstalled, reinstalled, updated) and nothing seem to let me get back to how I want to download my pictures from the camera. I have to used Adobe Photo Downloader, but then I cannot get the videos.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Does the paste function work in other applications?
If you don't have a graphics editor (like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro), you can use Word to check the paste function.

I am able to Copy a photo from the camera, open a Blank File in Photoshop Elements or in MS Word, and Paste the photo and it works just fine. It seems to be only when I try to paste them into a folder.

Also it Pastes just fine if I copy something from a different USB device, like an external USB hard drive, and paste to my main drive, or vice versa.

Do the pictures open while they are still in the camera?
What I mean is: If you open the the camera's photo folder using Windows Explorer (or My Computer) does double clicking on the files open them?

Have you tried plugging the camera in, turning it on, going to Control Panel>Scanners and Cameras, and adding it?

    OK
    I misread your reply

So what you are saying is that the only thing that is not working properly is when you paste into your my pictures folders nothing happens.
Can you paste anything else into that folder?

Yes. I just pasted files from a USB drive into it.

I have to go mow my lawn right now. Any other thoughts or ideas, please post them and I will check back later. Thanks!

I've been giving it thought and honestly I don't have an answer for you.
    If I understand you correctly:
    1. You can copy files from the camera and paste them into Photoshop

    2. You can not copy files from the camera and paste them into your "My Pictures" folder

    3. You can copy files from a USB hard drive and paste them into your "My Pictures" folder

    4. You can copy files from the camera and paste them into another computer's My Pictures folder.

(Do I have all that right?)

I can't think of any cirsumstance where this would happen.

Are you opening the images before you copy them, or copying the files directly from the camera as files?

    You have all that correct.

No, I'm not opening the images first, just highlighting the thumbnails of the photos in the camera, right-click, Copy and then try to Paste them in My Pictures. When I select Paste, the computer doesn't look it its even trying to think or do anything. Its like I never selected Paste.
